Bud Cummins joined Avenue Strategies as a partner in June 2017, focusing on compliance, regulation and business development issues. He also provides expert advice in crisis management and communication situations. He has a wealth of experience in broad categories of industries including energy, construction, real estate and finance.
Mr. Cummins has considerable experience in law, politics and business. During the 2016 presidential campaign, he served as the Arkansas State Chairman for the Trump/Pence presidential campaign. He also served as a Trump whip at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Soon after the convention, Mr. Cummins started serving full-time on the Trump/Pence transition team in Washington.
Since 2007, Mr. Cummins has continuously maintained a private law practice focusing on select white-collar crime, compliance and internal investigation matters.
From 2010 to 2015, Mr. Cummins also served as a Senior Advisor and General Counsel at the Circumference Group, a sector-focused investing and advisory team concentrating on the telecommunications, information technology, software, and outsourcing industries. At the Circumference Group, Mr. Cummins effectively leveraged his diverse background to help launch a sector-focused hedge fund and to also lead the analysis of private investment opportunities falling outside the Circumference Group’s core sectors.
Before joining the Circumference Group, Mr. Cummins provided crisis consulting to companies.
For the North American subsidiary of an international biofuels company, Mr. Cummins served as an interim CEO. He led an internal investigation into project cost overruns and negotiated with lenders for continued funding to complete the construction of a $70 million biofuel plant.
For a $250 million revenue company headquartered in St. Louis, Cummins managed outside counsel to impose a new compliance regime and to respond to numerous criminal and regulatory investigations. He also managed the defense of a portfolio of civil lawsuits including numerous class action cases.
Mr. Cummins has assembled a remarkable political resume. In addition to his multiple roles in the Trump/Pence campaign, he was the 1996 Republican candidate for Congress for the Second District in Arkansas, served as Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Mike Huckabee and received a presidential appointment to serve as a U.S. Attorney in 2001.
Mr. Cummins has an extensive educational background. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1981 with a BSBA in Finance and Real Estate. In 1989, he received his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) where he was a member of the UALR Law Journal and served as an assistant editor. He was the recipient of several awards for scholastic achievement. After law school Mr. Cummins had the honor of serving as clerk to the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
Mr. Cummins has been a speaker in a number of national forums, including numerous television appearances and testimony before committees in both houses of Congress. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Arkansas, and is a member of the National Association of Former U.S. Attorneys, the Federalist Society, the Republican National Lawyer’s Association, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Bio-ventures Advisory Board.
